To support a conversation around information access, opportunity and privacy which formed part of a talk at TedX Grahamstown (August 2012) I designed a conceptual exhibition to highlight for conference attendees the issue of private versus public information. This was all done before the Snowden revelations so it was quite a new thought for delegates at the time. Each delegate had been digitally ‘stalked’ by myself. The challenge was to find out as much information as possible on each attendee without ever having to ask to ‘friend’ them or join their network. The details gathered along with the individual's photograph were printed on nearly extinct dot matrix printers and the sheets suspended in long ghostly imprints of personal phone numbers, old like and dislikes for delegates to view. The structure of the exhibition was a visible framework that reflected on the timeless lens of digitally stored information that is very difficult to remove from public access even though your personal life circumstances or world view may have changed.
